Summary: Korinna and her two friends watched the town butcher be kicked out of his house by Rita's brother. On Korinna's way home, her and Rita talk about their friend Eva. Korinna is worried because Rita called Eva a potential 'jew lover'. When Korinna tells her parents they seemed worried. Her father gives Korinna a pet kitten and says that it is her new mouse catcher, or what she thinks are mice.

Summary: Finding out that Korinna's Aunt Hendrikia is coming home for dinner, Korinna promises not to be late. On the way to school Korinna mets up with her friends Eva and Rita. Rita shows Korinna about over hearing Rita's brother and her father's conversation. Rita says that the town butcher was involved in a secret organization that helped the jews and was sent to a work camp. Rita's brother was saying that he had secret ways of getting people to talk. At school Korinna and her class find out that their teacher, Fraulein Meiser (Miss. Meiser), will no longer be at the school. When Korinna went home, her kitten in nowhere to be found and she found a ribben that is not hers on her floor...odd.

Summary: That night, Korinna and her mother sat and listened to Aldof Hitler's radio broadcast. He talked about destroying their enemie, the Jews, and that out of the misery, a more unified Germany would ascend. At the end of the speach Korinna kept asking her mother why she wasn't so excited about Hitler's speach. Korinna's mother just kept saying that she did love the Fatherland. When Korinna's father came home late from a meeting, Korinna asked a bunch of questions. Her father said ,"it's not good to ask to may questons. You could ask the wrong thing to the wrong person." Korinna went up-stairs to do her homework. As she was working she heard the mouse noises again. Seeing her new mouse catcher, Korinna thinks if she could just move the schrank and get to the mouse hole, her cat could get the mice. But what Korinna finds aren't mice at all. There People!

Summary: After finding out what the noises were behind Korinna's wall, she has a war of thoughts in her head. Korinna loves her parents with all of her heart but how could they do this? Why would they betray the Fatherland? Korinna stays up all night trying to think if she should or shouldn't turn her own partents in to the police...she just feels like she has to talk to someone. But can she trust her best friend when her own parents were lying to her? Korinna's life is starting to spirel down into deep waters. Luck for Korinna she got the day off, and while laying in bed "sleeping" she listens to her mother and the Krugmanns (Sophie and Rachel, the Jews behind the wall) talk about her. All the while Korinna is feeling more and more like she should turn her parents in.

Summary: Korinna i reluctant about the Jews behind her bedroom wall. She feels uncomfortable in her room and with her parents. How could they do this to her?! To the Fatherland?! Korinna at least now knows where all the food is going, which anered her even more. Korinna's parents work hard for that food and Korinna feels like its a big wast. When Korinna finds that her friend Rita stopped by to see how she was doing, Korinna feel like there are still some sencible people out there. Her parents are keeping an eye on her but they just have to have faith in her daughter to do the right thing...hopefully. Anyway, now that Korinna knows the secret, Sophie and Rachel can come out a little more. But still be cautious.

Summary: This is the first time ever that Korinna wanted to say home from school! It is quite odd if you couldn't see what was going on inside her brain. Korinna feels like her whole wold has changed, and she cant even tell her best friend. Even so, Korinna's mother is making her go. "It will look supicious," Frau Rehme (Korinna's mother) said. Meeting up with her best friend, Rita, she could hardly say anything to her, in fear of spilling everything to Rita. But Rita has a huge suprise to tell Korinna. Suposedly the fuhrer is coming to their town. Korinna couldn't concentrate the whole day, caught up in her own world. Her friends are getting more and more worried about the way she is acting. When Korinna gets home, she finds that her mother plans to give Korinna's old dress to Rachel, which of course agered Korinna.

Summary: After a terrible fight with her mother, Korinna went up into her room to rant to her kitten. Korinna tried to think about what it would be like to be stuck in a small room behind the wall. In the end of her debate with her self, Korinna ended up giving in and let the kitten in to the small room. Later Korinna wrote in her black book: "My parents are the enemy." Which could be the worst mistake Korinna has ever made. Rachel drew a picture for Korinna! Thought, Korinna didn't appreciate it at all because it was drawn my a Jew. Frau Rehme pressured Korinna in going to her meeting. Then Rita pressured her into going also. Rita is getting nosie and keeps asking Korinna a bunch of quetions. Can Korinna keep it together, or is she going to crack and spill everything?

summary: Korinna is having troubles thinking like she used to. It seems like eveyone is supposed to think the same way. Rita is getting supisiouis of her, but thats not Koinna's only problem. When she was a little behind on saying "Hail Hitler" the group leader wasn't happy. Korinna got called up to the front and got smacked in front of everyone. When I say smacked I mean full on blow, no murcy. That night Korinna cryed. Everything was changing on her. Earlier, her and Rita chased some Jews and she felt bad. She thought that they didn't deserve it. They were only little kids. Korinna doesn't know what to do anymore.

Summary: Rita came over after school one day. Korinna thought Rita looked like she was suspicious of her. When Rita finds Korinna's black notebook she stumbles apon what Korinna wrote. Korinna quickly made up an excuse luckily, but Rita still looked as though she didn't believe her. After Rita left Koinna tore the page out and through it away, probably another mistake. Korinna felt this sudden urge just to talk to someone or do something. She let Rachel come out and sit with her. It was odd for Korinna. To feel okay with Rachel. And when Rachel started talking about some mean game the boys used to play in her neighborhood, Korinna felt this heat inside of her. She couldn't understand anything that was going on with her anymore. In Korinna's dream, she was throwing glass snowballs at Rachel when a loud pounding sound woke her up. It was Rita's brother, Hans, doing searches. As Hans was searching Korinna's room she fled her breathe the whole time.

Summary: Hans went to far when he hit Korinna's father. Did he really wnat to hurt him? Korinna even remembers when she had a cruch on him. Did he remember that? People all around her keep changing. It's making Korinna's head spin. Every day she is feeling farther away from her "friends and protectors" and closser to the "emeny". Korinna is now willing to help Rachel and Sophie and even go into what they have called the musty, dark hole behind the wardrobe "home".

Summary: The next troop meeting Korinna had went fine, actually. The group leaders made her in charge of keeping the extra fliers for the parade. On the way home Rita and Korinna were talking when Rita brought up somethingl. Rita said that lastnight her brother, Hans, was doing a house search on Korinna's mother's best friend. It turned out that he found something to...well i should say some people. The Reinekes were harboring two Jews in their cuboard. The old Korinna would have been happy that the Jews were caught, but now that she changed its different. She tries to hide her true feelings and Rita doesn't seem to notice. The next day, at the end of their meeting, Korinna asks Rita if she ever thought about the little Jewish girl that used to live next to Korinna. Rita says that she does every once in a while, but Korinna goes on. She asks if Rita feels sorry for them. She says that she does and when she asked if Korinna did also, Korinna felt suspicious. It seems like a trap at first but in the end Korinna felt bad about her thoughts and said that she did also. Korinna still couldn't tell Rita about Rachel and Sophia, though.

Summary: Koinna's mom sat her down after school to tell her some bad news. It turns out that Rachel's sister has had pneumonia for weeks and nothing could be done. Ruth died last night. Koinna was stunned. All she could see was Rachel's face bragging about Ruth. Koinna went upstairs to see if her. When she got there Koinna asked if she could see Rachel but instead of Sophie saying no Rachel shook her head. Koinna still got Rachel to come out, though, and she even got her to draw again. Koinna said that Rachel should draw Ruth so in ten years from now she wont forget what Ruth looked like. When Rachel was done drawing she looked through them while Rachel was explaining them to her. Rachel gave one of the many picture to Korinna to keep, and when Rachel went back inside, Korinna looked at the picture again. Ruth in this picture had blond hair, when it should have been dark, and blue eyes. Koinna relised that Rachel has already forgotten what her sister looked like. Koinna's father found Rachel's father and brought him to Sophie and Rachel. At the meeting, every one was avoiding her but still watching her. On her way home, Eva warned her that her house was going to be searched.

Summary: Once Eva told Korinna about the search she got home as fast as she could with out looking suspicious. When she got home she frantically told her mother and father what was going to happen. To her surprise, Rachel, her dad, and Sophie were already gone, though. Korinna was sent upstairs to rest because her mother and father said that they should leave when it gets dark if the police haven't come yet. When Korinna got in her room she went and hid the pictures that Rachel drew and vowed to never forget what the Krugmanns looked like. Once the sky turned dark the Gestapo came and kicked down the door. But Korinna had a plan...As they got to the wardrobe they figured out that there was something behind it. They stepped inside and found what looked like a shrine to the National Socialist Party.

Summary: Hans, furious that he couldn't find anything to send them to jail, kicks Korinna's cat on his way out. Tad, Korinna's cat, flew across the room and fell to the floor. Korinna went over to Tad trying not to cry because she wasn't moving. "How could Hans do that?!" Korinna thought. When Korinna lifted Tag up she was happy to find that her kitten was alright. Her father said to go pack cloths and nessisary items in her book bag. They were going to leave tonight. Hans would think that they would be to sacared to move tonight, and thats why they had to. As Korinna was finishing packing her stuff, along with Rachels drawings that she hid behind the picture of Hitler, she figured out that Freedom was just as important as love. Korinna ran to tell her parents.

Summary: The tension between all of the people up in that atic is almost to much to bear. Everyone is at each other's throat, all except anne and peter. It seams that they have grown quite fond of one another, two years living like that will make it possible. It's a Friday and no one is at work downstairs which has everyone wound tight. Dussel and Mr. Van Daan are getting into a fight about what day it is and if they should answer the mysterious phone that is ringing. Mr. Frank, calm and collected, tries to make them see reason. In the end, they end up just waiting until something happens. The scene goes to anne and peter in peter's room. Peter and Anne talk about the outside world and what they each missed about it. Anne says that she misses all the plants and her friend Pim.
